The ALS Challenge has stormed the nation, and it’s led to awareness for the progressive neurological disease as well as millions of dollars in donations. But not everybody is jumping up and down for joy. There are some detractors who call the challenge just another way for people to seek attention. Lil Debbie has been on the wrong side of public relations battles before, and it might just happen again.
“I don’t like it because I don’t think you… need attention to donate money,” Lil Debbie says during an interview with HipHopDX “Just donate money. Just do it — because it’s right, because you feel like it’s right, not because someone calls you out.”
Maybe the sentiment is right, and people should be donating out of the kindness of their hearts. But it is hard to argue with people donating money to a cause that can help people suffering from a debilitating and ultimately fatal disease. Debbie went on to say that we shouldn’t have to have an ALS Challenge in order to donate money to a cause.
“It’s fuckin’ sad that that’s the type of shit we have to do for people to know,” she says. “It makes me worry. It makes me really worry for our future and our little ones.”
