Trina’s ‘Da Baddest B***h’; Classic, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

Trina’s ‘Da Baddest B***h’; Classic, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

Trina was introduced to the Hip Hop world as a guest on Trick Daddy’s, “Nann N***a,” a ratchet-battle of the sexes. After it’d run it’s course, she had secured a large enough fanbase to where a demand for an album was in place.

Lil Kim and Foxy Brown’s Hardcore and Ill Na Na, respectively, paved a new lane for female rappers owning their sexuality. I think it safe to say Trina’s debut, Da Baddest B***h, added a layer of asphalt.

“Da Baddest B***h” is the first single from Trina’s debut

Trina grew up in 2 Live Crew’s backyard of Miami Dade. Some would say a sexual explicit album was inevitable. They were correct because she wasted no time giving us the XXX-rated business on the title-track.

“Sell the p***y by the grands,” Trina raps. “And in a month you own a Benz, Another week a set of rims. See if I had the chance to be a virgin again, I’d be f**king by the time I’m ten.”

“Pull Up,” the album’s second single and nod to Trina’s curvy backside, was a club banger.

But the singles is where the buck stops. The album missed the mark in terms of being non-skippable. For example, I’d hope Trick and Trina could recapture “Nann N***a” magic on “Off the Chains With It.” But it didn’t come close.

I did rock with “B***h I Don’t Need You,” but I’d love to have heard Trick Daddy Dollars on more than just the hook.

“Pull Over” is the second single from Da Baddest B***h

The album is named ‘Da Baddest B***h,’ so it’s only so many avenues the Miami native could have taken in terms of subject matter. But when its limited, all the elements that makes up an album must be superb. The sh*t-talking was top tier, but the lyrics were regular. In addition to the production was lackluster.

Though they were the singles, again, it did have some bangers. It was enough for it to reach the number 33 spot on the US The Billboard 200 and number 11 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In addition to reaching Gold status.

And may I add, the album served it purpose. You can tell female rappers such as City Girls and Megan thee Stallion, among others, were influenced by the Baddest B***h.
