The typical legendary rapper and not so legendary rapper may not be equals in terms of catalog. But there’s one thing they all have in common: a questionable record or records. Does 2Pac fit the bill? Of course he does. No one is exempt. Not even Pac. With that being said, let’s talk about “Toss It Up.”
Released in 1996 as the lead single from The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory album, “Toss It Up” was the tale of two stories. In one regard, Pac catered to the ladies with lines like “Lord have mercy Father help us all. Since you provided your phone number, I can’t but call.”

However, the other tale (the second verse) was Pac taking shots at the opposition, including Dr. Dre, whom had just left Death Row prior to the release of the song.
“Screaming ‘Compton’, but you can’t return. You ain’t heard? Brothers pissed ’cause you switched and escaped to the burbs.”
Despite the disrespect, it is safe to say the song was more of a love jam than anything. Danny Boy, JoJo, K-Ci, and Aaron Hall’s vocals should’ve erase all doubts. In addition, the beautiful Lisa Raye appearing in the video before we knew her as Diamond from The Player’s Club.
“Toss It Up” helped the posthumous album peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and become certified 4X platinum. However, the single didn’t chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Was it a dope record and the charts just didn’t reflect that? Or is it an accurate reflection? 🤔
