After throwing hits to other artists, Jermaine Dupri did a quarterback keeper with his 1998-debut, Life in 1472. But was it a banger though? Let’s chop it up.
JD gave us “The Party Continues” first, an upbeat single featuring Da Brat and Usher. Though is had mass appeal, the more memorable single was the second one, “Money Ain’t a Thang,” featuring Jay-Z.

The single reached the 52 spot on US Billboard Hot 100, and number 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
“Sweetheart,” the album’s third single, featuring Mariah Carey, provided commercial appeal as well.
But make no mistake about it, Life in 1472 wasn’t a Pop album. “Jazzy Hoes,” featuring 8Ball, Too $hort, Mr. Black & Young Bloodz, was for the streets. So was “All This Got’s To Go,” a battle of the sexes track featuring Brat.
Life in 1472 did well on the charts, reaching number 3 on the US Billboard 200, and it atop US Top R&B Albums.
In JD’s own words, he “make the big moves, do the big things, take small groups, turn them into big names.” But did those same traits spill over to his own album?
