Turk’s ‘Young and Thuggin’; Classic!, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

Turk’s ‘Young and Thuggin’; Classic!, Dope, Regular, or Garbage?

B.G. had some choice words for Turk regarding his 2001 debut, Young & Thuggin’ – pointing out it’s lackluster album sales in comparison to his Hot Boy brethren. “You had the worse selling album in Cash Money history.” Though Turk brushes it off as “brotherly competition,” – and it very well may be – HHAD couldn’t pass up the opportunity to debate an album. With that said, let’s talk about Young & Thuggin.

After hearing his vocals on several Cash Money releases, Turk blessed us with his solo debut on June 5, 2001. It followed the CMR album template. Of course, it wouldn’t be on task without the epic Manni Fresh intro.

The album title is Young & Thuggin, so songs like “It’s In Me” and “Project” fit the bill.

“One Saturday Night” and “Freak Da Hoes” were party records with the ladies in mind.

Funny skits such as “Hatin’ (Skit),” “Public Service Announcement,” and “Seattle Slew,” among others, were a part of the album’s track list.

Mannie Fresh produced the whole album.

As B.G. stated, the album didn’t receive a plaque. However, it did find success on the charts, peaking at number 9 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums

Just because Turk was the least of the four in terms of album sales, doesn’t mean his album was wack. Or is that the reason why his album sold the least in the first place? 🤔
