Rob Base, a Hip Hop Legend, Dead at 59, RIP

The Hip Hop world has lost another legend. Reportedly, Rob Base, born Robert Ginyard, has died at the age of 59.

According to a post on Rob’s official Instagram page, his death came after a battle with cancer. The news came as a shock to the Hip Hop community, as he and his family had kept his illness private and away from the public eye.

Rob Base, one half of the iconic duo Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, gave us memorable hits such as “It Takes Two,” “Get on the Dance Floor,” and “Joy and Pain,” among others. Those classics were released between 1988 and 1989, during Hip Hop’s Golden Age. Though many rappers may not have benefited financially the way artists do today, many still consider that era to be the culture’s finest.

Sadly, DJ E-Z Rock, Rob’s partner in rhyme, passed away in 2014.

Rob Base’s contributions to Hip Hop will continue to live on through the timeless music that helped shape a generation.

RIP Rob Base 🙏🏼🤍🕊️
