The R&B world has lost another legend. Freddie Jackson has reportedly died at the age of 69, according to a statement shared on Instagram by his family. The singer passed away Monday evening, just days after celebrating his birthday.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson, who went home to rest last night,” the family stated.
A cause of death was not disclosed. The family asked fans to keep Jackson’s family, friends, and loved ones in their prayers during this difficult time. They also noted that details regarding funeral arrangements and ways to honor his legacy will be shared in the coming days.
If you were born, raised, or simply partied during the 1980s, chances are you remember singing along to some of Jackson’s biggest hits. Jams such as “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake),” “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” and “You Are My Lady,” among others, became staples of the era and helped establish Jackson as one of R&B’s most recognizable voices.
And, of course, when the holiday season rolled around, “Christmas Forever” became the go-to for any soulful Christmas party.
Jackson’s music was all about love, romance, and those timeless moments that made R&B so special. His contributions to the genre have left an undeniable mark, and his music will continue to introduce his voice to generations of listeners.
RIP Freddie Jackson 🙏🏼🤍🕊️
