Last month (April 11), DJ Khaled received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Much like his albums, it was a star studded affair. Jay-Z, Fat Joe, and Diddy, among others, accompanied the Hip Hop mogul on the special day. It was celebrated as it should, however, was the event warranted in the first place?
According to Wikipedia, The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a historic landmark which consist of more than 2,700 five-pointed stares embedded in the sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of musicians, actors, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others.

In comparison to the total amount of recipients, only a handful from the Hip Hop community have been worthy, which consists of Queen Latifah, Pharell Williams, LL Cool J, Pitbull, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, 50 Cent and Sean “Diddy” Combs. I think individuals such as Latifah, Snoop, and Diddy are no brainers when you factored in what they’ve accomplished in Hip Hop — in addition to things outside the genre. But then, I scratch my head with guys such as 50 Cent and Cypress Hill. My opinion, the former hasn’t done enough though he’s on the right path. While I think the latter hasn’t did enough in general. Again, my opinion.
Does Khaled equate to the accomplished? He has found much success with a resume stretching nearly 30 years, which includes being a DJ, an onstage hypeman for Terror Squad, and releasing albums.
His 2016 release, Major Key, put him high demand. Turbo Tax and Ciroc were some of the few brands to take advantage of his popularity. Aside from that, he’s released first book, The Keys, which was an Amazon and a New York Times best seller.
Ironically, Khaled doesn’t rap. He doesn’t sing. Nor does produce much. However, the guy does orchestrate hits. “I’m So Hood,” “All I Do Is Win,” “I’m On One,” and “I Got the Keys” are some his many charting hits.

According to the critics, Khaled’s gift has been his curse. They’ve acknowledge his ability to create radio friendly bangers, but he goes overboard with the guest features which sometimes leaves his songs and albums with no sense of direction. Nevertheless, Khaled has proven his marketing game is incalculable.
But does that proves he worthy of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
