(R&B) Brandy’s ‘Brandy’; Classic!, Jammin’, Regular, or Not Impressed?

(R&B) Brandy’s ‘Brandy’; Classic!, Jammin’, Regular, or Not Impressed?

Let’s go back to the mid-90s — back to a time when we saw the release of Brandy’s self-titled, debut. Let’s talk about it.

At sweet 16, Brandy dropped her self-titled in 1994. To be just 16, Brandy spoke on mature topics, which is still relevant today. For example: loyalty in “In Want Be Down.”

“I know anybody’s gonna be lonely,” Brandy sings. “Without the reason they got someone to care for. Maybe all you need’s a shoulder to cry on. If that’s a fact than I’ll be more than you ever could dream of.”

“I Wanna Be Down” is the first single from Brandy

Ms. Norwood would use her beautiful lyric-soprano tone to complement her bestie in “Best Friend.” Another song that falls in the loyalty category.

Brandy would continue her complimenting ways in “I’m Yours” and “Sunny Day,” a nod to the significant other.

Perhaps, my second favorite song on the album — behind “I Wanna Be Down” — is “Baby.”

Brandy peaked at the number 20 spot on the US Billboard 200 and 6 on US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It was certified 4x Platinum.

Whether you think Brandy is a classic or just jammin’, I think we can agree the album has stood the test of time.
