The streets can be a dangerous place. With crimes such as robbery, theft, and drug dealing, among other illegal activities, it is often the least desirable environment. However, for those seeking an escape, Shyne suggests the music industry is no refuge.
During a 2001 sit-down with Big Tigger on Rap City: Tha Basement, the Brooklyn rapper was asked what the most “gangsta lesson” he had learned in the industry was. His response was direct and unfiltered.
“I just basically learned that it really ain’t no industry. Ya understand? It’s life,” Shyne said. “It’s worse up in here. ’Cause, ya know, the rules are more strict. At least in the street, you can loop, and dip, and swerve. But in here, it’s like the same situation with tighter rules. You understand? So, I just learned to stay focused—it don’t stop.”
Again, the streets can be a dangerous place. And since the music industry is no different, the good folks at HHAD are glad Shyne survived both.
